PhD scholarships in Optics and Photonics-Spain

Eligibility

Candidates must hold an internationally-recognized Bachelor or Master-equivalent degree of a minimum of officially 4 years studying period.

The degree must be in a field of science and engineering related to optics and photonics.

Suitable backgrounds include optics, physics, mathematics, electronics and telecommunications engineering.

Conditions of fellowships

The fellowships are offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of four years.

The renovation of the fellowship is conditional on satisfactory performance in research and teaching activities.

Selection procedure

Selection of ICFO-UPC predoctoral fellows is based on merit and potential, measured in terms of the academic record and personal achievements. Proactivity, participation in community activities, and capacity for team-work are also taken into account.

Usually, to apply for a predoctoral position with ICFO, suitable candidates are requested to submit:

-The fulfilled application form (attached to the call at our homepage)
-A presentation letter with declaration of research interests,
-A Curriculum Vitae, including a full address, a contact phone number and e-mail address and a copy of the passport,
-A scanned copy of your University academic transcripts in English or Spanish,
-A scanned copy of the degree, if available at the time of application,
-The contact e-mail of three potential referees.

Please, beware that ICFO established three periods of applications for pre-doctoral studies positions per year. The next submission deadline will be the 31st of December, 2006.

Monash University International Scholarship for Excellence

For undergraduate and postgraduate applicants to Monash University and currently enrolled international students at Monash University campuses in Australia


You will be automatically assessed and if you meet the selection criteria, will be made an offer. You do not need to apply for this scholarship unless you are an international student doing VCE in Victoria.

This scholarship amounts to a grant of $6,000 for a full scholarship and $3,000 or $1,500 per annum for partial scholarships. You must maintain a distinction average to retain your scholarship.

Sir James McNeill Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship

* For postgraduate research students.

This is a living allowance scholarship. The Sir James McNeill Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship is one of the most prestigious of the University’s awards and offers relocation, research and thesis allowances, as well as a living allowance.

You are eligible for this award if you are a Doctoral candidate in the field of science, engineering, medicine, or music.

This award may be held for up to three-and-a-half years.

Monash International Postgraduate Research Scholarship

* For postgraduate research students from all countries except New Zealand.

This is a tuition fee scholarship and does not provide an allowance for living expenses. You may also apply for a living allowance scholarship.

You may hold this award for up to two years for a Masters by Research and up to three years (with possible extensions of 12 months) for PhD or Professional Doctorate degrees.

Approximately 40 scholarships are offered each year.

What does the scholarship cover?

The scholarship covers the tuition fees, return economy airfare and a living allowance.

Policies and Procedures

Background

The Foundation of the National Automatic Merchandising Association will award seven (7) $2,500 post high school non-renewable scholarships in fall 2006. These scholarships will be subject to review and authorization of the Foundation Board of Directors before the announcement-application-award cycle for any future year begins.

Qualifications

An applicant must meet the following:

1. Must be a graduating high school senior or student enrolled full-time in a college undergraduate program at an accredited college or university.

2. Must maintain and verify a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent.

3. Must be the son/daughter/legal dependent of an employee of a NAMA member company and be sponsored by that company.

4. Must be an American citizen.

Information for Scholarship Winner

* Each applicant must fill out the approved application in full. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications must be postmarked by the DEADLINE DATE of March 1, 2006.

* Each application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a non-family adult such as a teacher, employer, etc.

* Family income, financial need or college major are not determining factors in these awards.

* Each scholarship applies only to the academic year in which it is awarded and will be forfeited if the student does not attend school with a minimum of 12 credits beginning in the fall term.

* The scholarship will be divided throughout the academic calendar year into equal parts for each term. The first part will be forwarded in the student’s name to the school of choice, prior to registration for classes in the fall of 2006. The remaining funds will be forwarded to the school, prior to registration for classes in succeeding terms upon verification that the recipient has maintained at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale grade point average in the previous term. All funds will be dispersed within a consecutive 12-month period.

* All applications will be screened by the Foundation Scholarship Committee to ensure they are qualified and complete.

* Applicants may reapply each year for as long as they are eligible. (An applicant may only win once).

* Parent or legal guardian must continue to be employed by the sponsoring company throughout the entire scholarship duration.

* NAMA employees and their families are not eligible.

* Winners will be determined through a random drawing of all eligible applicant names during the opening session of the 2006 Spring Expo. One alternate will also be selected.
